*NSS Unit of GDC Majalta Hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop*


Majalta, [Date] - The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Majalta, in collaboration with CASH and the Literacy Club, organized a one-day workshop on the theme "Rights, Responsibilities, and Remedies: Domestic Violence Awareness." The event aimed to raise awareness about domestic violence, educate participants on their legal rights, and discuss available remedies. The workshop featured esteemed resource person Kiran Thakur, a prominent advocate originally from Pogal Paristan. Thakur completed her schooling at St. Mary's Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and earned her LLB from Dogra Law College, Bari Brahmana, Jammu. She specializes in domestic violence laws, matrimonial laws, and cyber law and security. Thakur also runs an initiative titled "DHIRA: The Undistracted Mind," a legal awareness program designed to educate the public about their legal rights and responsibilities. In her address, Kiran Thakur provided valuable insights into the legal frameworks surrounding domestic violence and emphasized the importance of being informed about one's rights. She highlighted various legal provisions and protections available to victims, offering practical guidance on how to seek help and legal recourse. Dr. Shalini Sharma, Principal of GDC Majalta, elaborated on the significance of such workshops in fostering a safe and informed community. She stressed the need for continued efforts to educate individuals, particularly women, about their rights and the support systems available to them. The event saw the participation of fifty female students and staff members, including Dr. Chander Mohan, Prof. Naresh Kumar, Dr. Sehnaz Parveen, Prof. Kamal Jeet, and Prof. Dalip Kumar. Their presence underscored the importance of addressing domestic violence as a critical social issue. Prof. Anuradha, the NSS Program Officer, organized the event and delivered a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, participants, and faculty members for their active involvement. She reiterated the NSS unit's commitment to promoting social awareness and legal education among the student community. The workshop concluded with an interactive session where participants discussed their queries and concerns, further enriching their understanding of domestic violence and the legal mechanisms available to combat it. The event was a significant step towards empowering individuals with knowledge and resources to address domestic violence effectively.


GDC Majalta Hosts Awareness Program for Higher Secondary School (GHSS Mansar, GHSS Manwal and GHSS Majalta).


GDC Majalta proudly organized an enlightening awareness program aimed at Higher Secondary School students residing in the vicinity of the college. The initiative sought to equip students with crucial information regarding the forthcoming entrance test for admission to various colleges, particularly focusing on the CUET. The event, held under the esteemed patronage of the college principal, Prof(Dr) Shalini Sharma featured insightful sessions to apprise students about the intricacies of the CUET examination process. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, organizers Prof.Anuradha Choudhary, Dr. Dalip Dutta & prof. Naresh kumar shed light on the significance of the test, its structure, and essential preparatory strategies. Moreover, the program facilitated a comprehensive overview of the diverse major and minor subjects offered at GDC MAJALTA. The awareness program underscored GDC Majalta's unwavering dedication to educational outreach and community engagement, reaffirming its role as a beacon of learning and opportunity in the region.

Majalata : A one day Ayush Health and Wellness Camp was today organised by Directorate of Ayush, in Government Degree College Majalta Udhampur under able guidance of Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr) Shalini Sharma. The programme started with a keynote address by the Principal of the college. She emphasized that Ayurvedic medicine system is the pure Indian system of medicine. She urged the students to promote the Ayurvedic medicine system by adopting it in their day to day life. She said the ayurvedic medicines system is the oldest one and these medicines have no side effect. Dr Monisha Devi (MD) resource person conducted medical Screening on 67 students .The screenings encompassed a comprehensive assessment of their overall health and well- being. Each student underwent examinations fir vital signs, general physical health and any specific concern or symptoms they presented. She also , gave a detailed view of Ayush Health and Wellness Centre. Smt. Shilpa Guleria (MO), another resource person during her interaction said that we should follow wellness activities like weight loss exercise, stress management and take care of the body by maintaining an amount of physical activity that is required for good health but not enough to cause fatigue. She also provided tips to the girl students what type of medicines to be used during their mensuration cycle and also urged the students not to consume fast food which is affecting the fertility rate upto greater extent. During the camp free Immunity Booster medicines like Chyawanprash, Tulsi, Iron and calcium tablets were distributed among the students and the staff. A large number of students attended the camp. The entire programme conducted by NSS cordinator Professor Anuradha Head Department of education.

Attended by students, faculty members, and members of the local community, the program aimed to educate participants on issues ranging from reproductive health to preventive measures against common ailments affecting women. Principal GDC Majalta prof.(Dr) Shalini Sharma emphasized the crucial significance of women's rights advocating for equality, empowerment, and the eradication of gender based discrimination in society The medical office Majalta Dr Munisha emphasized the critical importance of women's rights, including access to reproductive healthcare, menstruation awareness, and treatment for conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) The collaborative effort between Government Degree College Majalata and the Department of Health underscored the commitment to prioritize women's health and well-being in the community. Through informative sessions, interactive workshops, and expert-led discussions, attendees gained insights into the importance of regular health check-ups, proper nutrition, and the significance of early detection and treatment of women-specific health concerns. Furthermore, the event facilitated open dialogue, empowering participants to address stigmas surrounding women's health issues and fostering a supportive environment for seeking medical assistance. Overall, the collaboration between the educational institution and the health department not only raised awareness but also encouraged proactive measures towards ensuring the holistic health and empowerment of women in the community. Principal Shalini Sharma thanked the NSS cordinator for organising the WOHE programme, The event was conducted by team of GDC Majalta including Prof. Anuradha HOD Education and organising committee comprising Prof Chander Mohan (HOD) English, Prof. Dalip Dutta (HOD) EVS, Prof. Naresh kumar (HOD) Dogri, Dr peerzada Amir, Dr Arsheed lone, Dr palak , and Dr Abass.
